Vance's jazz influences inform his very strong folk/blues musicianship.
He wrote five of the album's 11 songs; carefully rendered stories and
images. Covers include "Come on in My Kitchen," Dylan's "Buckets
of Rain" and "The Wreck of No. 9." This spare album features Vance's
guitar and voice with harmonica or fiddle added to four tracks. Bittersweet
is a modest if quickly endearing album. -- MT
