"It's the kind of music perfect for nursing a drink and imagining life on a high desert plain." - Stan Hall, The Oregonian

Solo

Lap steel slide guitarist and troubadour, Dylan-Thomas Vance is a versatile player with the ability to deliver a performance "as intimate as a streetlight serenade from a new lover" (to quote The Daily Astorian) or, when the occasion calls for it, a raucous, foot stompin' gritty blues throwdown that caused one bar in in Washington to rename a Maker's Mark whiskey sour a DTV!

The Powerhouse Duo

"Drop by Biddy McGraw’s nearly any Tuesday and you’ll get an earful of mournful, forceful blues from these Portland pros. If the teasers from the live CD the pair recorded at the Northeast Portland pub... are any indication, their extended residency has served them well. Vance’s sandpaper vocals have gained an ever-rougher grain. The pace is faster. His guitar steams while Bear’s frenzied fiddle practically gooses listeners. If this duo’s sound gets any bigger or wilder, it’s liable to overtake the whole damn bar itself." Willamette Week, January 2005

Griff Bear and Dylan are a fiery and enchanting duo to behold. Griff and Dylan light up every Tuesday night at Biddy's (NE 60th & Glisan in Portland, Oregon).

Griff is also an integral part of The Powerhouse Revival (see above), in addition to playing Celtic fiddle with St. James' Gate.

Goombahttsi
Bahttsi is not a band. Bahttsi is not even a real word.

Bahttsi is short for Goombahttsi, but the "Goom" is silent." Bahttsi has a fun attitude and aren't a group that takes themselves too seriously. Their website features more pictures of beautiful chickens than the band.

This non-band features many fine citizens of the state of Portland:
Greg Scholl on guitar and trombone
Marc Visnick on Bouzouki
Griff Bear on fiddle
Mark Burdon on drums
Matthew Rotchford on bass
Dylan-Thomas Vance on slide guitar

This band was featured on the Mastan Music Hour Podcast

Jessica Stiles Band
Jessica Stiles on dylanthomasvance.com Dylan's been having lots of fun playing in The Jessica Stiles Band with the witty and gifted songstress Jessica Stiles on vox and guitar, Walter Cryderman (a.k.a. Lonesome Wally) on telecaster, Dale Turnbull on bass and Jason Stewart on drums.

The Powerhouse Revival

"Vance has been known as one of the stealth powers of the local acoustic blues scene for a while, and he imbues his Revival with plenty of back-porch moan. However, it's a far-from-straight-forward brew, with bluegrassy fiddles, voodoo organ and gut-bucket drums behind Vance's soulful wail." - Willamette Week

The Powerhouse Revival is like nothing you've ever heard. Dylan leads his whiskey-soaked roadhouse rockin' gospel blues jamband to dizzying heights of ecstatic jams and jaw-dropping solos. Regularly performing as a trio the players are:
Dylan-Thomas Vance - lap slide guitar & vocals
Griff Bear - fiddle & vocals
Allen Hunter - doghouse bass & vocals

The Powerhouse Revival lives and plays in the moment and any one of the following musicians have been known to join in the fun at local Portland gigs:
David Lipkind - harmonica
Ned Folkerth - drums
Dave Fleschner - Hammond B3

Duo with David Lipkind

Though Dylan is most widely recognized for his blues work, and David Lipkind is unarguably one of the hottest, most soulful blues harps players around, when the two join forces on stage, their performance crosses the boundaries of several genres of music incorporating not only blues, but also bluegrass, roots, and country.

A third-generation harp player, Lipkind fuses guitar, fiddle and horn phrasing into his eclectic approach. He draws inspiration from country, blues, and jazz singers, as well as harp greats Big Walter Horton, Doc Watson, Paul Butterfield, Deford Bailey and others.

Lipkind's 14 years of touring and recording have helped establish him as one of the Pacific Northwest's most called upon harmonica blowers. He's barnstormed around the country on tour countless times, as well as overseas 4 times.

"Suddenly, the wildest, smoothest, most elastic harmonica solo roars out of the mix, making you wonder what kind of grizzled, itinerant, old-time harp wizard has wandered into the place.... But when you turn around, it's just that same unassuming little dude... who was up there all along, now tearing it up right before your eyes. That dude is David Lipkind, secret weapon of many a local band... an amazing harp player." - Willamette Week (Oregon), 2001

Rachel Browning and The Do Right Boys

"Rachel Browning and the Do Right Boys chugged through rich and gracious slices of Americana that sauntered, swayed and scorched their way slowly into the soul. They oozed professional calmness and sailed effortlessly through an assortment of simple, yet sophisticated original folk tunes." - The Oregonian
